We are the YMCA! What, I hear you say, the song, the village people, no unfortunately not, but we have been here longer. Since 1844 in fact!
YMCA Somerset Coast bought the building in 2015, and have taken on the task of restoring this important grade two listed building formerly the home of Hannah More, the social philanthropist.
The Barley Wood project offers all you see on this site, but with a few hidden gems, all of the monies raised through operation of the building support the charitable aims and objectives of the YMCA, and whilst this is important, the main aim of the project is to provide opportunities for young people to learn, develop and thrive, so the bookings, the service and the facilities are looked after by our young people, giving them a chance to develop the skills needed for future life.
As one of YMCA Somerset Coasts ‘Social Enterprises’ Barley Wood is self-sustaining, and offers so much more than just a place to live!
The team on site are brilliant and will look after your every need, from Gary our onsite Caretaker, through to our young people each of them will ensure that Barley Wood has a special place in your world.
